| LEJOG near Langholm to Newcastleton |
Route passes around Cooms Fell on a quiet tarmacked road. There is a steep ascent if going west to east.
Services at Newcastleton.Limited: Shop and pub but no bike shop. In an emergency you may be able to get assistance at the Bike Hire at Rock UK in the Whithaugh Park to the north east of the village. |

| Newcastleton to Bewcastle |
Route starts off following the Newcastleton Red ascent into the hills. Nice easy single track which should be manageable with even a trailer. Where the Newcastleton Red descends into Tweeden Burn, our route keeps to the contours. However the hardy could do the descent into the burn and then back up the other side to rejoin our route. Then it is easy forest routes down towards Bewcastle.

| West of Bewcastle to the Sandstone Way |
Just north of Bewcastle there is an option to go east to join the Sandstone Way. The route ascends a rough track into the Wark Forest, where the route becomes easy with gentle gradients. It is somewhat remote so make sure you have repair equipment, food and water.
We suggest you do not attempt to make your way south through Spadeadam Forest as all routes lead to Kingwater House (OS 615, 702) which is MoD land, and we have been advised there are no rights of way through.

| South from Bewcastle to rejoin LEJOG at Bampton |
The route south from Bewcastle is all on picturesque and quiet country roads. Don’t be tempted to take the bridleway over “The Beacon” (OD 574 719) as the marked right of way has not been maintained and the fell is just unrideable peat and bog.
